- 7 out of 10 people who were tortured during the detention process stated that they were tortured on the street or in social demonstrations. The number of people who applied to the HRFT (TIHV in Turkish) for torture and ill-treatment during the year reached the highest level in the last 30 years.
- 984 people applied to the HRFT last year because they or a relative were subjected to torture and other ill-treatment. While 616 of the applicants stated that they had been subjected to torture during the year, this corresponds to the highest number of applications for torture in the year since the foundation of the Foundation.
- Of the applications, 915 were made because they had been subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.
- Of the 915 people who applied to the foundation because they were tortured, 871 applied within Turkey and 44 applied because they were tortured in another country.
- 616 of those tortured applied to the HRF because they were tortured in 2021 and 211 of them were tortured between 2016 and 2020.
- When the distribution of 871 people who applied for being subjected to torture within Turkey according to their gender identities is examined, it is seen that 307 applications (35.2%) are female, 527 applications (60.5%) are men, and 37 (4.2%) are LGBTI+ outside this classification.
- 9% of the applicants stated that they were detained because of their political opinions, identity or actions.

- The official detention center where the most torture incidents were detected in 2021 was the Istanbul and Van Security Directorates.
- It was observed that a significant number of the applicants had been subjected to multiple methods of torture. It was determined that 8 of the 10 applicants had been subjected to insults and humiliation, 7 out of 10 had been subjected to physical intervention, and 5 out of 10 had been subjected to sexual torture.
- It was determined that 14 of the applicants required surgical intervention during the treatment process.
